(霍 大 維)

I have over 30 years of experience conducting business between the United States and the People’s Republic of China; 16 of which were spent living and working in Mainland China and Hong Kong. I have a wide network in the region, which I use to facilitate development of business opportunities between the United States and China.

My interest in China stems from the 1930’s when my Great Uncle served as the Representative of the trading house of Bunge & Borne in Shanghai.  My knowledge of his experience and that of my father’s in dealing with Eastern Europe in the 60’s and 70’s lead me to pursue Chinese language studies during my undergraduate days resulting in my participation in the first Michigan State University overseas study program to Xian in the Summer of 1982.  The China I was exposed to at that time solidified a strong belief that China would have a major impact on my life and that of my generation and led me to pursue a China career that continues to evolve.

I began my career in the early 1980’s, based in Dalian, serving as a Production and Logistics Manager for a small American garment manufacturer.  I have since held positions in a wide range of industries including, automotive, industrial refractories and healthcare and have actively participated in China’s growth and development over the past 35 years.

My early days in China helped me to develop relationships with the team that ran the Beijing Jeep Corporation and after obtaining my MBA from the Columbia Business School, facilitated my joining Chrysler as a Business Development Specialist to work on their China Programs. There I helped to support the operations of Beijing Jeep and participated in several technology transfer projects.  I returned to Dalian in 1992 to serve as the General Manager of Dalian Morgan Refractories, following which I joined the visionary American Healthcare Company Chindex and supported its growth and development throughout the 90’s serving as the Administrative Director of China Operations and then as an integral part of the team that designed and built the Beijing United Family Hospital.  Following it’s opening in 1998, I relocated to Hong Kong as the Managing Director of Chindex International’s Hong Kong sales office representing Acuson Ultrasound Systems and Siemen’s Ultrasound products.

I joined InterChina Consulting in 2005 and relocated to the United States in late 2006 to establish a U.S. presence and currently serve as a Senior Advisor to the firm.  As a member of the firm, I supported a wide degree of Strategy and Mergers and Acquisition transactions including Joy Global’s purchase of the Wuxi Shengda Mining & Materials Company and the JM Smucker Company’s minority investment in the Guilin Seamild Biologic Technology Company.

I am a fluent Mandarin speaker well versed in cross-cultural management and have proudly served as President of the American Club of Beijing, Vice President of the American Chamber of Commerce, Beijing, as well as a past chairman of the China Business Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong.  I currently serve on the Board of the Maryland China Business Council and have been an active member of the U.S. China Business Council.
